Acro Expands Capacity with 11 Axis Sliding Head

Turned parts specialist, Acro Engineering, have announced the acquisition of a Tornos 2000, 11 axis sliding head CNC Machine. Capable of 24 hour production of turned parts up to 32mm, the new Tornos machine has been purchased to help meet production deadlines and to generally bolster Acro's overall capacity.
 
 


 

Acro have been machining turned parts for over 30 years and work in a diverse range of industries, making parts for the automotive sector, the oil industry, medical companies, architectural components and aerospace.

"We have a lot of respect for the Tornos machines," said Fred Pain, General manager. "We think they are the fastest on the market, as well as being accurate, reliable and having good technical support. They also have a parts and swarf conveyor, which is essential for the way we work. Having this kind of machine helps us deliver a top quality service to our customers."

Acro specialise in high volume turned components, running 24 hour 'lights out' production seven days a week. Acro's machines are fitted with web cams for remote monitoring and automatic fire extinguishers for use in the production of components using metals such as titanium. In addition to sliding head and multi-spindle technology, Acro uses 3D SolidCAM machining technology for the production of complex parts.

"We've always had a policy of investing in the latest technology in order to gain a competitive edge and offer the very best quality," said Fred. "The new Tornos is already proving to be highly productive, it’s proving to have been a very good investment."

In recent years Acro has been recognized for its machining of exotic metals such as titanium, inconel and monel. Having been involved in a number of projects for industries such as the defence sector, the nuclear power industry and medical sector, Acro has gained a deep understanding of these types of materials and how best to machine them in production volumes.
